Peace in Kashmir would have been a distant dream if the Indian Army had not taken on the challenge during the invasion by raiders in 1947. Without their intervention, Jammu and Kashmir could have suffered the same fate as Pakistan-occupied Kashmir or even become a rogue state like Afghanistan, facing complete destruction. It was the Indian Army that saved Kashmir from the brutal rule of these raiders from Pakistan, who not only looted the region but also committed heinous acts against Kashmiri women.

From the day when Pakistani Razakars and regular troops crossed into Jammu and Kashmir in 1947, using rape, torture, and looting as their primary weapons, the Indian Army has stood firm. They successfully defeated the invaders and have been continuously engaged in maintaining peace and order in the streets of the Kashmir Valley.

Since 1947, the Indian Army has been protecting our borders and providing a safe and secure environment. Various attempts from Pakistan have been defeated, and the Kashmiri people must salute the immense sacrifices of the Indian Army. If peace in Kashmir continues, it is due to their vigor and compassion. The jawans have made huge sacrifices and shown tireless effort for the Kashmiri people. The army not only maintains law and order but also safeguards national security and counter-terrorism. They have been successfully establishing a positive relationship based on mutual respect and understanding through various community-oriented initiatives and programs. It aims to be perceived as a force that is responsive to the needs and concerns of the local population.

Indian Army, as a multi-tasking institution, an emergency task force, and the most disciplined military in the world has sown its footpaths at local, national, and international levels of eventuality and emergency. Providing humanitarian assistance operations during natural disasters, medical aid, organizing community engagement programs and undertaking infrastructure development initiatives. Additionally, the Indian Army engages with local leaders, community representatives, and other stakeholders to understand the aspirations and grievances of the people of Kashmir, and to address them collaboratively.

Indian Army also made efforts to revive local Kashmiri Culture, tradition and brotherhood. This includes understanding and appreciating the unique socio-cultural fabric of Kashmiri society and being mindful of local sensitivities in interactions with the local population. The role of the Indian Army in Kashmir is not of security force only but, it aims to contribute positively to the well-being of the Kashmiri people and establish a relationship based on mutual trust and respect. Such a pro-people attitude and discipline made their socio-cultural fabric stronger and if there is a complete integration of the Indian Army into Kashmiri society, it is because of their efforts toward that victimized Kashmiri people.

Indian army plays a critical role in promoting, regenerating and reviving peace, prosperity and fraternity in Kashmir through different ways and by adopting different strategies and approaches to help Kashmiri people from religious indoctrination, radicalization and secessionism. It was very tough to fight the idea and rather easy to get involved in an open fight. The war of narratives was fought by the Indian Army through an idea and counter-narrative. They fought and lead people in positive ways and counter misinformation and dis-information instilled among the Kashmiri people. Such type of war needs not guns, but human efforts, human curtsey and humanism.

Today, we see, less terrorism, violence and radicalization it is due to the security cover provided by the Indian army to the locale with motivation, only people in Kashmir have the grith to speak against terrorism and embrace peace and prosperity.

Broadly speaking, maintaining law and order, counter-terrorism operations, Border Security, Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief, Community Engagement and Development, Peacekeeping Operations and Conflict Resolution employed by the Indian Army combat extremism and terrorist activities that pose a threat to peace and security. These human development operations, socio-economic development, create livelihood development, the establishment of educational institutions and working as first aid in the rural areas addressed the root cause and evoke deep-rooted terrorism in Kashmir and promote a culture of peace and integration.

It is the Indian Army that deserves to be seen as the real hero of freedom in Kashmir, having given the Kashmiri people freedom from terrorism, separatism, and radicalization. The shift from militancy operations to a people-oriented approach has made the Indian Army heroes in Kashmir. To make them even more effective, the Government of India should allocate sufficient funds to this honest and corruption-free institution for their outstanding performance in Kashmir. It has been observed that the developmental projects undertaken by the Indian Army are much more valuable than those by other agencies. As I mentioned, the Indian Army is a multi-tasking institution and has carried out various developmental projects. At present, they need substantial allocation for human development, in addition to physical development. People at large trust their institution and work culture.
